Pick Me Up

Hi all, it’s Bre! Do you ever feel like this? Because I sure do. A lot. If we just had one day every month where we got a free pass that would be amazing! Just a day with no work, no school, no responsibilities. I’m pretty sure we all have mornings that go a little something like this…Alarm goes off, you roll over groaning and hit the snooze button. You think to yourself, ‘Ahhhh. There’s no way it can be time to get up already. I swear I just fell asleep three minutes ago.’ So you fall back to sleep for a whole nine minutes before, once again, BEEP BEEP BEEP. Reach over and snooze once more. And this goes on and on until the absolute last minute you have to get out of bed. Pretty sure this happens to me every morning (I am NOT a morning person although I really wish that I was).

So what is a doable alternative? I’ll tell you! Let’s pretend for this blog post’s sake that you work 9am-5pm.

–While you’re working (if at all possible) listen to music that makes you happy. It seriously makes all the difference.

–Take your lunch break and meet up with your friend, husband, boyfriend, sister, mom,  dad, etc. It’s always nice to have lunch with someone you love. Maybe you can’t do this every day but once or twice a week will be amazing.

–Drink a lot of water. Nothing makes you feel as good as drinking enough water! Keep a water bottle at your desk.

–Keep your favorite snack in your desk drawer. Just for those days that really aren’t going your way and you need a little pick me up.

–On your way home from work, rock out to your favorite song. It is soooo freeing I promise.

–Plan fun things for after work. Dates, girls nights, shopping trips, movies, watching your favorite TV show, etc.

–Cook dinner. Cooking is fun when you find new and exciting recipes! I suggest Pinterest for that! It’s a wonderful tool.

–Plan fun DIY projects with your friends! Great ideas also found on Pinterest.

If you have any other ideas, let me know! I’d love to hear from you! If you try any of these suggestions and you enjoy them let me know too! We can all use a little pick me up, you’re not alone!

Midnight in Paris

Have you seen it? I know we’re a little late on this one, but you know what they say “Good things come to those who wait for it to be available on DVD.” Right?

Set in the French capital, Midnight in Paris is a romantic comedy about a man’s love for the iconic city and the illusion people have that a life different from their own would be much better. If you’re a Woody Allen fan you’ll love it, if you’re not, well, give it a try anyway. We promise you’ll be smiling by the end. The cast is outstanding. It’s smart, clever, and if anything else, a beautiful postcard from Paris.

Neon

Bre here!

Neon is sooooo in right now. And I’m kind of in love with it. I love pops of color, and the fact that these are neon pops are 1,000 times better! Please don’t be afraid of neon! I know a lot of people are, but I promise you’ll turn heads if you wear it! Also, neon fingernails are amazing. OPI and China Glaze have some great neon colors out right now. But how in love are you with that neon bag? You can find it here at ModCloth. And even if it’s cold where you are, you should still wear some neon…how about some cute neon knitted mittens? I’m in. I’m in love with these ones at Purl Soho. They would be absolutely perfect peeping out of a navy wool coat

Best Albums of 2011

As one year ends and another begins, it’s a time for new resolutions, new beginnings and of course, “best of” lists. Creating a single list that encompasses an entire year of music is a difficult task, but also something that’s extremely fun and something I do every year. It’s fun to reflect on the many incredible albums that were released during the year and to flip through all my records to make sure I didn’t miss any (although I probably still did).

2011 was another amazing year in music. We saw releases from musicians that we haven’t heard anything from in a few years like Feist, PJ Harvey and M83. We saw debut albums from some extremely talented new bands like Austra, The Head and the Heart, Cults and Washed Out. And there were of course some excellent new releases from some of our favorite bands like Noah and the Whale, Cut Copy, St. Vincent and Mates of State.

So after a lot of thinking and a lot of rearranging here you have it, our top 30 favorite albums from 2011. Leave us a comment and tell us what some of your favorite albums were. Oh, and happy New Year!

New Year :: Learn, Look, Live

Hey everyone it’s Bre!

So I was trying to think of some New Years Resolutions but I wasn’t doing a very good job. Plus, every year I make a list and by the second week of January I’ve already stopped doing everything on it! Not a good thing. So I decided to do something a little different this year. You know how people say that this is a time to reflect on the year gone by and look toward the new year ahead? Well I agree. Kind of. I don’t think you should dwell too much on the past OR the future. You should be living in the present. We should all learn from the past, look toward the future, and live in the present. Easy enough, right? It’s not as easy as it sounds. But once you make your lists you will realize how amazing it is! Make a list of what you learned from the past year, what you are looking forward to in the upcoming year, and what you are living for right now. Learning, Looking, Living.  Here’s how I made my list

Learning ::

–I learned that I can’t judge people on first impressions. A lot of people don’t make good first impressions but are wonderful anyway.

Looking ::

–I look forward to new experiences and new relationships.

Living ::

–I live for all the people in my life that I love.

I think this is so much better than that same old list you make every year that gets lost in the junk drawer. These are things you have learned from and will one day learn from again. And writing them down makes it so much more memorable. You will realize you learned a lot more than you thought. You’ll realize all of the amazing things you have to look forward to. You’ll realize all the incredible things you have right now and you’ll appreciate everything so much more!
